The Shirazi Foundation attended an event hosted by the Brookings Institute titled, Budgetary turmoil at the Department of Defense, 2010-2014. A panel of experts gathered to discuss cuts in funding at the Department of Defense (DOD) and how the current finances should be allocated. Suggestions were made to avoid  budgetary turmoil, and what will be the best direction to dodge the circumstances of the  government shutdown of 2013.

 

The Shirazi Foundation attended an event hosted by the Brookings Institution titled, Measuring progress on financial and digital inclusion.  A group of leading experts carried out a  panel  discussion to explain various ways to engage the key financial inclusion authorities. It was cited that experts tracked the use of digital financial services and its growth in recent years among many people who have little or no previous experience with formal financial services.

 

The Shirazi Foundation attended an event hosted by the Institute of Gulf of Affairs titled Woman Up! Saudi Women’s Roles in Countering Violent Extremism. A round table discussion was conducted on women’s rights. The Gulf Institutes recently released report on the Middle East women’s involvement in business. Experts stated that the National Action Plan on Saudi women is an included recommendation section of the report by the United States and how to effectively advocate for women’s rights and place them at the top of the foreign policy agenda.

 

The Shirazi Foundation  attended an event hosted by , American Express OPEN titled , American Express OPEN for Government Contracting: Summit for Success American Express OPEN,. This event was conducted by multiple panels of experts who educated a national audience on the process as to how  different branches operate to receive funding. Many analytical  aspects of finance were explained  from writing better proposals , to connecting to federal contracting  opportunities and much more. Experts strongly suggested that any organization operating nationally or internationally should have there documentation organized and in order at all times.

 

The Shirazi Foundation attended an event hosted by the Brookings Institution titled The next defense technology revolution .The Brookings institute’s moderator welcomed attendees to a discussion on defense innovation across the defense and nondefense sectors. The focus was placed on the rapid pace of technology and its changes in that field. Experts moved toward understanding the implications of applying these new technologies, and the negative and positive affects of using these new innovations on the field. It is a concern for experts that the new technologies such as 3-D printing, lasers, and other innovative technologies are set to disrupt budgets and transform the norm of current activities.

 

The Shirazi Foundation attended an event hosted by the United States Institute of Peace titled Beyond Afghanistan’s Dangerous Summer United States Institute of Peace. A panel of experts convened to explain the current situation in near east Asia and suggested that many of the extremist groups have traveled north and has caused unrest. There was  also some skepticism whether or not the extremist groups in that region will split into different factions and join under the flag of ISIS. Some experts also remained optimistic towards reaching  peace, reconciliation and stability in the region.

 

The Shirazi Foundation attended an event hosted by The Brookings Institute titled The State of Afghanistan and Prospects for the Future: A Discussion with General John Campbell. Experts gathered to explain why casualties are rising in the region and the different challenges that the native fighters face while fighting extremist groups. Experts also elaborated on the system used for drafting amongst the locals of that region where individuals enlist but rarely return to battle after defecting from the field. Experts also suggested that their focus is building up the locals in their efforts to repel the extremist groups. Additionally, concerns over ISIS moving into the region are also escalating.

 

The Shirazi Foundation attended an event hosted by AEI titled, The pivot to Asia: Rhetoric isn’t enough. A panel of experts moved towards understanding the implications of the current trends in East Asia. Experts expressed that East Asia believes that they are accomplishing their goals and strategies while suggesting that they have huge concerns in the field of banking and environmental.Experts further expressed that there is an increasing number of congress who believe that the military has been dramatically underfunded, and that it is imperative that the defense spending remain stable.
