Meeting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives H.E. Abdulla Shahid
Shirazi Foundation’s Washington D.C director attended an event titled A Discussion with H.E. Abdulla Shahid, hosted by the Atlantic Council regarding the situation of minorities and human rights in the Maldives. H.E Abdulla Shahid is the current Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives. Mr. Shahid elaborated on challenges his country faces in rebuilding itself in educational fields, security, and economic stability.
Mr. Bharath Gopalaswamy, Director of South Asia Center of the Atlantic Council emphasized on the roadmap ahead of Maldives in the years to come, and the steps Mr. Shahid is taking as the Foreign Affairs Minister of Maldives. Director of Shirazi Foundation stressed the importance of building an inclusive society where minorities have the ability to express their opinions freely without fear of legal consequence. Bridging the gap between people and nations is an important step that countries need to take in order to build a strong and welcoming nation. Slowly building independency of Maldives is essential to its long lasting and peaceful governance.
