Internal displacement: Lessons learned after 20 years and challenges ahead
The Shirazi Foundation attended an event hosted by The Brookings Institute titled Internal displacement: Lessons learned after 20 years and challenges ahead.
The expert panel suggested that even when full-scale hostilities in countries have ended the resolution of many armed conflicts throughout the world continue to be elusive. The continuation of this conflicts and their consequences, as well as the risk of renewed conflicts, has given rise to an emerging interest in protracting displacement. Experts also express that studies show the number of the displaced due to the ISIS groups violence and fighting has exceeded 3.09 million in Iraq alone. The panel offered strong recommendations to human rights organizations, humanitarian and development organizations to help IDP’s (internationally displaced persons) resume normal lives in safety and dignity.
