The Expert Mechanism on the Right to Development (EMRTD) was established by the Human Rights Council in 2019 under resolution 42/23 as a subsidiary body of the Council. In carrying out its mandate, the Expert Mechanism holds annual meetings, undertakes thematic studies and study visits, holds interactive discussions and consultations, participates in outreach and communications initiatives and reports to the General Assembly and Human Rights Council.
The Expert Mechanism provides the Human Rights Council with thematic expertise on the right to development in searching for, identifying and sharing best practices with Member States and promotes the implementation of the right to development worldwide. The Shirazi Foundation believes a collective effort between countries, experts on the subject and civil society engagement and cooperation is needed to achieve best results effectively.
